May 23rd marked the 4th annual Women Who Tech TeleSummit, featuring panels designed to “break down barriers and showcase the brilliant talents of women who tech.” The Women Who Tech Globally panel was moderated by Author and Trainer Beth Kanter and featured Director of Strategic Partnerships at IIESF Heather Ramsey, Communications and Marketing Associate at Akili Dada, Mary Patton Davis, and the Executive Director of Akili Dada, Dr. Wanjiru Kamau-Rutenberg, along with program participants from each organization. The event involved over 600 participants from across the nation, showcasing the remarkable power of technology to bring people together. Continue reading

TechWomen Mentee Launches Discount Coupon Website

 

On October, 24th 2011, TechWomen Mentee Loubna Lahmici launched the first coupon website in Algeria. Ms. Lahmici’s new site, Dzreduc.com, provides limited, high-value printable and mobile coupons for significant discounts to local consumers. By taking the first steps toward online commerce, Ms. Lahmici’s venture is transforming Internet shopping in Algeria.  In a country with over 8 million Internet users and more than 30 million mobile users, Dzreduc.com is changing Algerian consumer practices by introducing the Internet as a tool to save time and money.  Continue reading

An Enriching Experience in Marrakech

So far, the TechWomen delegation trip to Morocco is every bit as enriching and physically draining as the 5-week TechWomen program; that said, enriching is quite an understatement. For me, travel is synonymous with growth. Working at IIE (Institute of International Education) has been an invaluable learning experience. I am extremely fortunate to have had the chance to get to know 37 unique, intelligent, and generous TechWomen Mentees from the Middle East and North Africa over the period of their 5 week mentorship and to have traveled to Washington, DC with the group in July. I have learned more professionally and personally in the last 9 months than I ever thought possible. That being said, it has been an absolute honor to meet the Moroccan and Algerian Mentees in Morocco this week.

TechWomen 2011 Mentor Delegation to Morocco

TechWomen at Conference

The TechWomen Mentor Delegation will travel to Morocco between October 15 – 22 to participate in targeted meetings, networking events, and a Women in Tech Conference. Alongside the Moroccan and Algerian Mentees, the U.S. Delegation, made up of women from Silicon Valley tech companies, will take part in and lead workshops aimed at encouraging young girls and women to consider career opportunities in technical fields. Delegates will present at schools and universities in Marrakech, Rabat and Mohammedia, at NGOs and social enterprises, and will meet with women entrepreneurs, leaders, and the first woman Mayor of Marrakech.
